Over time, Arabic food, especially deserts have developed by leaps and bounds, but the way the traditional sweets were made is exceptionally different and brings in the flavor of the Arab world. The unique history takes all the credit in the creation of such a taste and fragrance in the all Middle Eastern sweets, particularly the Lebanese version.



Lebanese have been under the foreign rule and power over many years which greatly influenced their food. The food and sweets eaten by Lebanese or Middle Eastern people was therefore greatly affected by the foreign culture too, along with their own grand mother secrets. This gave a perfect blend of foreign and Arabic cultures to the Middle east dishes. The Ottoman Turks have remained in power in Lebanon from 1516 to 1918. During such a long tenure, the Turks introduced and brought a lot of variety of food to Lebanon which included fresh breads, olive oil, stuffed vegetables, Laban and Baklava. The popularity of these dishes rose so much that the dishes were soon called the staples of Lebanese dishes. Baklava is a Mediterranean sweet that is prepared using pistachios and dough. This Mediterranean Arabic sweet is well known among all the Lebanese and people who come to visit here because of the special aroma and taste that it offers to the gourmets.



After the Turks left Lebanon, it was the French who took over and ruled till 1946, thereby adding yet another class to the Lebanese food. During this time, food such as buttery croissants, caramel custard and many other were introduced. Lebanese themselves introduced and experimented with their foods, especially desserts and this brought a lot of richness and assortment to all the Lebanese desserts. There were a lot of ancient tribes that travelled across the entire Middle East carrying along themselves the food that would remain intact for as long time. This added rice and dates to the Middle East dishes too. A lot of tribes added fruits and a lot of vegetables in their diet which also became a part of Middle East diet later. In this way, the Middle East food, especially the sweets became exotic with the introduction of exotic and unique ingredients that were brought from all kinds of people.



Over the years, Middle Eastern have remained intelligent enough to capture the specialty of various invaders in its sweets and other dishes, thereby adding variety to their food. Arabic sweets are well renowned in todays time and people travelling to Lebanon or other places are simply impressed by the way these desserts are being prepared. Lebanese cookies and sweets are known to have the special and exclusive Lebanon touch in the taste and aroma. It is therefore the hot favorite dish for not just the Lebanese, but also the tourists visiting there.



It would not be wrong to say that the assortment brought about in the Arabic sweets, particularly Lebanese sweets has also been a boon of invasion over Lebanon. The desserts that taste and smell so good today all date back to the efforts that have been made to introduce perfection in these dishes.
